Virginia Appellate Courts Electronic System (VACES)

Effective January 1, 2016: The Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Virginia will begin accepting digital records from all tribunals. The records must comply with the Digital Appellate Record Standards promulgated by the appellate courts.


About
The Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia require the filing of electronic briefs and appendices in appeals granted, appeals of right and docketed original jurisdiction cases. The appellate courts also permit the filing of electronic records in all cases. The briefs, appendices, and records are filed by uploading these documents into VACES, pursuant to the Rules of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Guidelines and User's Manual.

Register to submit briefs and appendices (eBrief)
Registration is required to file briefs and appendices in appeals of right, granted appeals, and docketed original jurisdiction cases with the Supreme Court of Virginia or the Court of Appeals of Virginia. Register to submit digital appellate records (eRecord)
Digital appellate records may be submitted electronically by custodians of such records. Registration is required to submit appellate records electronically.
